Good article. It definitely gives one pause to think about intervening in Syria. However your comparison of Bush (Iraq) and Obama (Syria) is way off. The two situations are massively different in a few ways:
Bush tied Iraq to 9/11 & possible WMD attack on the U.S. Obama has not tied Syria to 9/11 once (no patriotic gushing about 'Merica here unlike what you claim) and is saying they used chemical weapons on own people, not possibly on the U.S.
Bush called for a full military intervention (boots on the ground) to overthrow a dictator. Obama is calling for a limited airstrike on certain targets to weaken Assad and has basically taken ground troops off the table.
Bush started 2 full-fledged wars with hundreds of thousands of soldiers with no plans on how to fight or end the wars. Obama ended 1 war (Iraq), is ending another (Afghanistan), and helped overthrow a dictator in Libya through the UN with airstrikes and not one single American life lost.
I'm not on board with the airstrikes in Syria, but I wouldn't exactly call Obama a war-mongering politician considering the above and the fact that actual war-mongers like Jon McCain & Lindsay Graham are criticizing Obama for not using the military enough on the international stage. Obama isn't what he promised he would be as commander in chief, but he's not Bush either.
Love your music (saw you in Denver this summer!) and I appreciate the excellent and thoughtful journal, even if I disagree a little here.
